The event will feature a discussion on best practices for caregivers and loved ones of people living with dementia.
Amy Rushing, a Dementia Care Specialist for the South Carolina Department on Aging will discuss:
- A short overview of dementia- brain changes, types, stages, symptoms
- Effective communication strategies by stage
- Methods to interpret verbal, non-verbal, and behavioral cues
- Best practices to prevent or de-escalate challenging situations.
