The City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, in conjunction with the Senior Commission, will host a free event, Know Your Meds, Know Your Mind: Keeping Your Mind Sharp and Mood Bright on Thursday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lessie B. Price Senior & Youth Center, 841 Edgefield Avenue NW. The mission of the Senior Commission is to facilitate educational programming to advance the well-being of seniors (age 50 and above) in Aiken.

Seniors need to understand how medications, lifestyle, and emotional support contribute to mental clarity and mood. This event will give attendees the opportunity to listen to a panel of respected experts, including a Community Advocate on Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder, a Functional Medicine Practitioner, a Nutrition and Fitness professional, and a Grief Share Facilitator. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive information from various booths representing different services, programs, and support initiatives aimed at engaging participants. Additionally, there will be a raffle featuring two grand prizes: portable space heaters and $25 gift cards.

“This panel is about equipping our community with tools to thrive, not just survive,” says Aimee Hanna, Chair of the Senior Commission. “By bringing together experts in mental health advocacy, pharmacology, fitness, nutrition, and grief support, we’re giving our community proactive steps toward living fuller, healthier lives.” Whether you’re a senior, a caregiver, or simply someone interested in aging well, “Know Your Meds, Know Your Mind” is a can’t-miss opportunity to engage with experts and community members who care deeply about senior wellness.

A light breakfast with coffee will be served to registered participants. To register, visit one of the recreational centers or call (803) 642-7600, press 3.

A variety of local businesses that cater to our senior community are sponsoring the event, including Anchor Post Acute, Family Pharmacy, Gentiva Hospice, Physicians Services Group, The Place at Shadow Oaks, and Shellhouse Funeral Home.

The City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism invites people of all ability levels to enjoy programs, parks, and facilities. Individuals needing special assistance to participate should notify PRT Administrative Office 48 hours in advance.
