Acid reflux and heartburn affect just about everyone, but when should it be checked to avoid long-term problems?

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common condition in which the stomach contents move up into the esophagus. Reflux becomes a disease when it causes frequent or severe symptoms or injury and may damage the esophagus, pharynx or respiratory tract.

Gastroenterologist Michael Beattie, DO, with Medical Group of the Carolinas - Gastroenterology - Pelham, will share measures to prevent developing GERD, common and uncommon symptoms, how this is diagnosed and ways it can be treated.
